| History of Dynamic |
| |
| |
Dynamic is a Wrexham based charity that provides out of school activities and training for children and young people with physical, intellectual or sensory impairments, emotional and behavioural problems or chronic illness. |
| |
|
Supported by Social Services, Health Service staff and volunteers, Dynamic work in partnership with statutory agencies, the voluntary sector and the community. The aim is to provide a lively, safe and just environment in which children and young people with special needs, their carers, families and friends can benefit from an enhanced quality of life and the young people be empowered to help themselves. |
| |
|
Dynamic registered as a charity in 1995 and moved to Oteley House in 1996 which was provided rent free initially with an undertaking to purchase the house when funds became available. The Bradbury Foundation came up with the funds to buy the house and make the necessary adaptations. One of the conditions was that the premises be renamed ‘Bradbury House.’ |
| |
|
Dynamic currently supports over 100 youngsters by holding 6 weekly after school groups, Club 19 – 25 and a Saturday drop-in group, activities during the school holidays and a major Summer programme. |
| |
|
Dynamic is the only provider of this type of service in the area and has a waiting list of youngsters requiring the services provided. In order to be able to continue to provide the service £200,000 needs to be raised annually to support the current level of work without any expansion at present costs. Dynamic however knows that the demand is there to warrant an increased provision. |
| |
|
Dynamic also administers the ‘Daybreak’ scheme which provides respite care for the parents/carers of children from 5 –16 who have a Disability Living Allowance and for their siblings during the holiday periods for up to 8 hours per week. The funding can be used flexibly according to the families’ needs and is allocated by the National Assembly for Wales . |
| |
|
A scheme to encourage the integration of disabled young people into mainstream leisure activities is also managed by Dynamic. |
| |
|
To meet the future needs of the youngsters and develop, Dynamic needs to consider its position. Some of the considerations are:- |
- Adapt Bradbury House further to meet the increasing needs for more space and provide further activities.
- Consider a move to a purpose built facility with playing fields and specialist facilities to meet the needs of all.
- Raise the necessary money to employ more project staff to be able to increase support to families, reduce waiting lists, provide a Sunday drop-in, etc.
- Possibly extend the provision to satellite centres in outlying areas to provide the special service Dynamic provides.
|
| |
|
All these are possible and would ensure that youngsters with disability are given the opportunities and services they deserve |
