Projects
Play Grant
The aim of the Project is to support young people aged 14-25 with a disability to access a mainstream sporting/leisure activity of their choice with support and for some eventually unsupported. Dynamic project workers support the young people for up to 4 hours a week in the evenings or at weekends.
They have tried a number of different activities including; mountain biking, laser quest, volunteering in the Dynamic shop, swimming, shopping, bowling, cinema, restaurant visits, disabled cycling, theatre group ,gym and football club.
During this year 20 young people accessed the scheme. Of these 12 were buddied up with a friend. While on the Project they have all been working towards agreed aims and targets to improve their levels of independence.
Two of the young people have gone on to access activities independently. One of these attends a local drama group. He has been involved in acting directing and writing plays. He is very active in representing young people with disabilities and has won two awards this year which recognize the contribution he has made. Two of the other young people have gone on to residential college. The project has allowed them to practice some of the independence skills they will need. The feedback from the parents has been very positive.
The young people really enjoy going out with someone other than their parents/Carers.
